Crafting for good

Crafting for good

Our dedicated crafting community contributes thousands of handmade items each year, with regular donations arriving weekly. These are lovingly distributed across our wards and departments, offering a little extra care to patients and families.

How our crafters make a difference

For babies in our Neonatal Unit, crafters create small blankets, ventilator hats, and PICC line covers, keeping our tiniest patients cosy. Families on the birth suite also receive baby packs, including beautiful hand-knitted items for their little ones.

Knitted kindness hearts are a symbol of comfort for patients and their loved ones in end-of-life care. One heart stays with the patient, while the other is given to their family as a meaningful keepsake.

Surgery can be daunting, but thanks to donations of blankets, patients feel more at home as they recover in our surgical wards.

The Forget Me Not Unit provides specialist care for our most vulnerable patients. Handmade blankets personalise beds, offering familiarity and comfort. Twiddle lap blankets, designed with textures and items to touch, help ease anxiety and provide calming sensory experiences.

For families who have lost a baby, the Butterfly Suite is a space of solace. Our crafters make sleeping nests and rainbow blankets to offer support. Tiny hand-crafted bears are also provided - one stays with the baby, and the other is given to parents as a cherished keepsake.
