Making Waves Appeal raises £55,000 

The Making Waves Appeal launched in 2023 with the aim of funding specialist equipment and facilities for the Children's Ward at Warrington Hospital.

More than 30,000 children are treated across Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals’ Emergency Department, Outpatient Clinics and Children’s Ward each year, with more than 75% requiring specialist support.

Thanks to generous donations to Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals Charity the new resources are already having a profound impact.

Gaming carts

Children staying on the ward are now able to use the portable RockinR medical carts pre-loaded with interactive games. Available at bedsides, in treatment rooms and in waiting areas, the carts offer a welcome distraction for children, including those in wheelchairs.

Soft play area refurbishment

The ward’s soft play area has been transformed into a bright and inviting space, encouraging movement and play to support both physical and emotional wellbeing.

Sensory room

A state-of-the-art sensory room has been introduced, providing a soothing, immersive space with calming lights, gentle sounds and interactive features designed for children with complex needs.

Interactive activity tables

Two new activity tables are inspiring creativity and social interaction, offering arts and crafts, puzzles and educational games for children receiving care.

By creating a more comforting and engaging environment, young patients feel more at ease during their hospital stay.

Jane Forber, health play specialist on the Children’s Ward, said: “The new equipment and play areas are transforming the hospital experience for our young patients. The soft play area has become a vital part of the ward.

“Seeing children’s faces light up when they walk in is heartwarming – many don’t want to leave! It’s a space where they can play safely and feel more relaxed during their stay.”
